It’d been worse when they reached the clearing, though. When he’d seen the pillar standing proud in the centre of the green circle; rough stone, ancient and softened with lichen and moss. It had seemed almost organic, like it had grown from the dark earth. A heavy presence hung around it, reminding Martin oddly of church. So much emotion bled into the stone, ingrained in the grit of it. So much fear.
Every half-century, the good people of Hope must give one of their own away to the monster that dwells in the ancient woods bordering their village. This time, it's Martin's turn.

(yes the title is a music reference, sue me; most of the chapter titles are going to be references to songs used for Magnus Archives AMVs, or The Mechanisms lyrics)
This work is somewhat inspired by this fanfic by Deanpala, in which Jon dies at the end of S5 and is sent back into the world of S1 MAG as a moth-monster archivist entity (it's good and quite a bit more fluffy than mine)Series

There is a cat that keeps walking through the shadows in MACUSA. It’s not uncommon to see an owl or a pigeon, sometimes even a rat memo scurrying about. But an actual cat? Now that was a little different. The cat was sleek and thin but not a starved kind of way, however the cat was a little on the smaller kind but it looked well fed. It’s fur was all black so it helped the little thing sneak past even the most perceptive of Auror’s, and it slunk through the shadows like it was one itself. Tina Goldstein was the first one to actually spot the cat, she was just coming back from a break where she of course went out for a hot dog and probably still had a bit of mustard on the side of her lips. And then she found herself freezing in the middle of the hallway at the sight of a cat racing across the hallway and slipping into the cracks of a door about to shut itself closed.
