Subverting one's expectations has always been one of Mavuika's specialities, Xilonen finds.
She just doesn't know how far Mavuika can go, and the thought frightens her a little, if not a lot.
So when Mavuika returns from death's door after an encounter with the abyss, Xilonen fears, then she is relieved, then she is upset.
If not for her, then it is for her heart.
Xilonen finds that when she sows bitterness, she reaps sweetness in return.
When she planted the seeds of her love for Mavuika, she had been fearful of what could conspire, but she always gets to taste her by the end of the day.
In a sense, she is a liar, because she would never be truthful about how Mavuika tastes; that is only for her to know.
Mavuika does not taste an ounce of bitter, but she will insist otherwise, for the sake of her heart.

The Chasm is dark and incomprehensible, dangerous and mysterious.
All qualities that Yelan seeks.
Yelan has ventured into the Chasm more times than she can count. Aside from her home of Liyue Harbour, the Chasm is the place she visits the most. Most of the time, it’s for work, but sometimes when there isn’t much else to do and the peaceful tranquility of her home has grown boring, she wanders into the Chasm with no real purpose in mind — just to stand in the midst of it and stare at the vast enigma of the area.
But as the old adage goes, if one stares into the void long enough, the void stares back.
Left with scars of her trips into the Chasm — both seen and unseen, Yelan is haunted by nightmares. Worried about her deteriorating condition and every increasing injuries that Yelan returns with, Shenhe forces her to take a break. Hopefully, before she breaks.

“We often go to restaurants where she asks me to sample many mortal dishes according to her recommendations. She has also made tea for me at her teahouse once and refused to let me exchange mora even though that was what I saw the other customers do. Yelan refers to our time together as dates. What would that mean?”
Ganyu seemed to have choked on something.

It’s stupid, Yelan thinks.
It’s her fault that Shenhe is even in this situation. If only she hadn’t so casually asked the other woman to join her on her latest mission to round up some Treasure Hoarders who had been terrorizing some routes coming down from the mountains (something that she usually handled on her own anyway). If only Shenhe, her darling Shenhe, hadn’t so readily agreed to tag along. If only she hadn’t let the leader of the Treasure Hoarders escape as they were rounding up the dozens of goons that he seemingly kept appearing out of nowhere.
If only they hadn’t given chase. If only they hadn’t taken so long to round up the other Treasure Hunters, who had scattered like grains of rice from a broken sack. If only this hadn’t given their leader enough of a head start that they couldn’t stop the man from doing something foolish. If only this stupid man hadn’t dove headlong into the first cave that he came across after splashing through a creek, exhausted and weary. If only the two of them followed the man into the cave.
If only. If only. If only.
If only.
If only Shenhe hadn't gotten injured protecting her.
Yelan has to save her. She has to.

Shenhe shakes her head.
“It’s because if you hold on tightly, everything will be alright.”
There’s a wistful look on Yelan’s face as she stares off into the brightly lit city of Liyue Harbour and the dark waters that lay beyond it.
“And you?” Shenhe leans slightly into Yelan’s side. “Are you alright?”
Yelan laughs. She places the end of the lifeline into Shenhe’s hand and the power that thrums through it sends a shiver through her body.
“As long as you are holding the other end, I’m perfect.”
She understands what Yelan is saying with this action. She isn’t sure that she, the Divine Damsel of Devastation, should be the one holding this honour.
“Are you sure you want me to hold the other end?” She asks quietly.
“There is nobody more worthy.”

After Yelan is gone, Shenhe struggles to understand why Yelan chose her.
