But that’s been the case all week. The lesson plan, or what Kokichi’s heard of it, is pretty standard as well, just another boring old lecture on last night’s problem set. He stopped listening well over forty five minutes ago.
No, what grabs Kokichi’s attention today is the boy seated in the desk three seats in front of his, right by the window at the front of the classroom. Shuichi is one of the few who seems unaffected by the general unease of the class today, studiously taking notes on everything the teacher is saying. His nose is wrinkled slightly and his lips are drawn together in a thin line. He keeps twirling his eraser in between his index finger and thumb, digging his nails into it and leaving tiny little crescent-shaped indents in the rubber. His eyes dart between his paper and the board, narrowed slightly, pale watered-down sunflower grey, shimmering in the sunlight that streams through the window.
Because, oh yeah, his eyes. Shuichi isn’t wearing his hat today.
