Summary
“Come in.”
Trixie did as she was told, closing the entryway quietly behind her. It was pure silence as she crossed the wooden plane between the desk. The office was lined with book cases, shelving novels and non-fiction tales in what seemed like fifty different languages. Any free space was taken up by priceless antiques, of which Trixie was sure must have belonged to some royal family. It was lavishness at its finest.
Her boss hadn’t looked up from her writing once, but the sound of Trixie’s distinct footsteps had obviously caused her to smile.
Trixie eased the envelope full of hundred dollar bills on to the desk. Still no reaction.
She took the money out, spreading it in a perfectly straight line that nearly spanned the entire length of the desk. Leaning over to her handbag once more, she grasped a hold of a particular marker. Pulling off the cap between her teeth, she put a strike on every bank note. None of the ink turned black. No matter how many times Trixie analyzed her payment, her heart always raced when she had to do it right in front of her superior.

Summary
Katya looked up. Trixie. She just spilled ice and coffee all over Trixie. Great. “Fuck, fuck, ohmygawd, I’m so sorry!” She took off the chambray shirt she had on over her dress and quickly tried to dab away at Trixie’s front. This was not how she expected Katya’s first introduction to Trixie’s body to be like. This was so embarrassing.
Trixie waved her off, gently pushing Katya’s hands away. “It’s okay, hey, stop, stop, it’s fine. I’ll just - ugh, I hope this doesn’t stain, I really like this shirt.”
Katya bit her lip. “Trixie. Hi. Look, I’m so sorry. I don’t mean to sound like a total creep, but I live right next to the bookstore. I can lend you some clothes? While we wash your shirt? I’d hate to be the reason why your shirt got ruined because I was a stupid, clumsy bitch.”
“I got told not to trust strangers who offer to take you to their homes. Especially New Yorkers.”
Katya grinned. “Well, lucky for you I’m from Boston! Come on, before the stain sets in.”

Summary
Ru always kept his Cabaret as elegant as possible. Nice furniture, the smell of incense and a bit of alcohol reminded her more of home than her actual home did. And, she wasn’t disappointed. Barstools were neatly pushed in where they weren’t being used. High dining tables scattered the house, with equally high chairs, padded with nice, velvet cushions. Even the stage had a fresh coat of black paint on it, and the curtains had been replaced in the last ten years, she noticed. This was once home to her, she wondered, briefly, why she left.
“… Trixie?”Oh.
Trixie felt her stomach drop to the floor. She faced the bar and the voice that came from behind it.
“Katya. Hey.”

Trixie’s started spending more time out front, determined not to miss one single visit even as they get more and more frequent, she wants to make the most of every moment she gets to spend trying to make Katya laugh or tempting her with her new creations, enjoying the afternoons when Katya will linger around the counter until she realises the time and dashes off to teach a class, leaving Trixie to collect herself and try to get her heart rate back to normal.

Summary
Beatrice is busy looking at the way the peaks of Brian’s cheeks are pinked, the flick of Katya’s tongue over her bottom lip.
Both of them look back at her with the same moony grin, and it twists up her insides more than the two glasses of wine she’s had should allow. Across the room from her Trixie is uncharacteristically silent, watching the two Katyas, watching Beatrice. He clears his throat and locks eyes with her. She knows.

Summary
She rattles off her rehearsed lines, and Katya watches with amusement, wondering how many times she's said those exact phrases today.
"Sure, come on in." Katya doesn't wait for her to say anything, just pushes herself off the door frame and disappears into the house. She hears a surprised little oh behind her, and then a second pair of heels clacking on the hardwood floor, the front door closing.
(On the surface, Katya is a bored housewife who gets a visit from her new Avon consultant Trixie. Actually, things are more complicated.)

Summary
In the following weeks Katya had scoured every issue of the New York Times for Mattel’s review. She had given up hope after several months with disappointment sitting heavily in her stomach. Mattel apparently had no thoughts on Katya’s food, not enough to even warrant writing anything. It’s worse than knowing Trixie hates her cooking. Then Katya could agree to disagree and get over her stupid schoolgirl crush. She’s no idiot, she knows that that’s what this is. The most persistent crush of her life. It doesn’t help that Trixie is an absolute doll with a figure to die for and a voice that Katya can feel directly between her legs.
It’s fine. She is 48 years old, and she doesn’t need Trixie Mattel’s validation. It’s fine.
Trixie Mattel is the most feared food critic in the country, and Katya will defend her from anybody implying she's a bitch. Except that Trixie actually is a bit of a bitch, and Katya loves it.
