Her lips twitch but the rest of her visage remains impassive and faraway, more like a flick knife than a woman. The correlation is uncanny.
That's when she inches closer. The space between them bridged. He freezes. Hyper-aware of just how dangerous this is, but can’t bring himself to pull back, to look the other way. Not when her hand reaches out to pluck the cigarette from his mouth, eyes still glued to his, and curls her lips around the filter. One heavy pull, and then she rolls down the window and tosses it out on the side of the road.
"Thought I'd reciprocate the sentiment."
And with that, she leans back in her seat before Adler could even process what has just transpired.

Summary
Months after Solovetsky, living in domesticity with Russell, Bell is still struggling with the remnants of the MK-Ultra programming lingering in her mind. Russell helps after a particularly vivid flashback to her false memories - his memories - of Vietnam. Despite knowing better than to trust the man who destroyed her, she lays herself open for his scrutiny - relies on his poisonously sweet touches to feel better. It should be gross, pathetic of her to need him after all he’s done.
Instead, Bell awaits eagerly for whatever he decides to give her. And if he wants to marry her? Even better.

Your eyes trace the scar from under his eye down to where it bridges the right corner of his lips. He didn't have it in Vietnam, that much you can reliably recall, and no amount of questioning has pushed him closer to revealing the story to you.

The hand covering her mouth falls away to rest on the curve of her neck. Cupping her throat and thumbing at the thick cartilage that dips with each swallow. She sucks in a sharp breath, fresh adrenaline flooding her system from the shock.
“You—you lied to me!” It’s the first thing she thinks to say. And she immediately feels silly for it, like some school girl.
Adler kisses behind her ear. Sucking the sensitive patch of skin there until she gasps. “Hm?”
