Summary
"Maybe," Irina said, "I will ask. Maybe, Shane and Ilyushenka would like to go on ice together? Hockey maybe, or only skating?"
"Shane would certainly prefer to play hockey," Yuna said, as Shane stepped into the room, his eyes going suddenly bright when she glanced at him as the word hockey left her mouth. Sometimes she thought it was like having a little puppy hearing the word walk.
"Hockey?" Shane asked, still standing in the doorway, his whole body vibrating a little, "I can have hockey?"
The Hollanders go on a trip to Russia in 1996 to attend a wedding, and Shane makes a friend. In 2008, he meets his friend again. Part of him knows it's his friend, sadly, that part is not his brain.

Summary
Ilya dug deeper into the bag and pulled out a sturdy, leather dog collar, dark brown and buckled. Quick as a wink, he held it up, dangling it directly at Shane’s neck. "You make cute puppy. Shchenok Shane."
Shane glared, his face heating up instantly, and slapped Ilya's hand away. "Stop it!"
Ilya advanced closer, his stance casual, yet dominating. "I am serious. Consider this gift. It says, 'I belong to Ilya Rozanov.'... Come on. Put it on. Be my good boy."

Summary
"Hockey talent or not, for the rest of his life, the onus will always be on him to dodge this bullshit and come out squeaky clean on the other side. The strict rules binding him simply don’t exist for other people."
A few months into his first season with the Centaurs, Shane is rapidly approaching a breaking point for reasons nobody would ever guess, and he himself is only beginning to understand.

Summary
“Shanya,” Ilya says. He considers and discards his next few potential sentences. “Moya lyubov.”
“Spit it out, Ilya,” Shane says, so Ilya does.
“The boys want us to fuck. They think sex ban has jinxed the team.”
Whatever Shane was expecting, it clearly wasn’t that.
