Summary
Chuck's newly released books tell of another war between Heaven and Hell. Team Free Will sets out to try to defy prophecy, only to realize there is a lot more at stake and amiss than the not-quite-accurate words of one Prophet of the Lord.

Summary
In 2009, months after rescuing the Righteous Man from Hell, Castiel rebels against Heaven’s plan and chooses to help Dean Winchester. He is immediately killed by the archangel Raphael for his transgressions.
But then God brings him back to life—with a catch. Castiel can return to Heaven and ask for forgiveness, or continue to help the Winchesters, alienating himself from the only home he’s ever known. To help him make his decision, God sends Castiel back in time three years ago.
Now in 2006, Castiel is faced with gaining the trust of a younger, skeptical, pre-hell Dean. Without the threat of an apocalypse or avenging archangels, Castiel accompanies the Winchesters on a case and wonders if he truly has a place with them, or if he’s only an angel too blinded by his devotion to a human.

As they race the clock to figure out how to save a de-aged Dean Winchester they slowly become introduced to an entire new side of the man they thought they knew some much about.

Written for this prompt by deceptivechasm on the no longer exists LJ simon_says_dean: Something very traumatic happens to Dean while he's with Sam (or Sam was away) which causes him to stop talking, *again*. Sam didn't know about the first time, and has to ask Bobby (or John) about what happened after his mum died. She originally requested Gen or Wincest but okayed my going with Dean/Cas instead. As implied in the note below this was written before we knew about the whole Souless-Sam thing.
