Summary
Hawkins, Indiana is a graveyard that doesn't know it's dead yet.
Two days since the gates opened. Two days since the earthquakes. Two days of watching their town become something else- something wrong, something hungry, something that bleeds red lightning and tastes like ash.
The military says they're establishing a perimeter. What they mean is: you're on your own.
Steve Harrington has always been good at protecting people. It' basically his only skill at this point- that and hitting things with a nail bat. But there are too many people, too many monsters, and not enough time before Hawkins becomes a tomb. With Robin refusing to leave his side, Dustin refusing to follow orders, and an apocalypse that won't wait for anyone to be ready, Steve has to figure out what happens when the world doesn't end all at once.
It ends in pieces. One person, one choice, one sacrifice at a time.

Soulmates implied a forever. And she firmly believed they were soulmates—because calling their relationship romantic was both excruciatingly wrong and nowhere close to describing the depth of who they were. But it didn’t imply they would be there for it.
Forever is a weird concept after you’ve accepted you weren’t getting it. It's even weirder when you get it.

Max’s head whips to find Steve leaning against the doorway, hands deep in the pockets of his khakis and his ankles crossed casually, like he hangs out in this funeral home all the time.
“Oh.” She clears her throat. “Hey. Asshole.”
“If you’re trying to hide, you might want to shut the door,” he says, stepping inside and lightly pushing the door until it clicks shut. The room feels so much smaller.
“I didn’t want to freak anyone out.”

Summary
Slowly but surely Max's clothes had found themselves in Steve's laundry and he had set them aside in the dresser for next time. Then it was a hairbrush, her shoes, school work, and her tapes. Soon Max was only at the trailer during the day after school, but after Steve got off work at Family Video he would swing by Forrest Hills every night.
He never pried or pushed for her to talk to him about Billy, never wanting to pressure her. He can't help but feel regret bubble up as she now accepts her potential death. He wishes he tried harder to be there for her, to cheer her up more. He looks down at what might as well be a suicide note in his hands and he hopes he'll never see the day he reads it.

Season 4 re-write where Steve and Max developed and Sibling-like relationship after Billy's death and when Max falls into a coma Steve reads the letter she wrote to him.
