She couldn’t even say it had been impossible, she knew she could’ve done it — she could’ve saved them all. But she picked Chloe. And as horrible, as tragic, as devastating as the choice had been, Max knew it was the only option she would ever choose. Even if she woke up tomorrow and found the date on the calendar was October 7th, she would make the same choice. A thousand times. An infinite amount of times.
To her, to Max, it would always be Chloe. Nothing in the fucking world would ever change that.
Max made it out alive with Chloe at her side, swearing to never use her powers again. But leaving the past behind isn’t as easy as she thought it’d be, especially with the weight of grief and guilt hanging over her shoulders. Luckily, they’re in it together — and nothing will ever tear them apart...Right?

Chloe says excitedly, unsure if Max would prefer that term again after what can only be described as ‘the fucked times‘
Max looks up, nervous and visibly in fear.
She says in a broken voice.“Chloe.” She says, audibly distraught and appalled.
“You promised not to call me that, never again.” She catches her breath, hands on knees and heavily puffing.
“Now let’s go inside before-“
She gets cut off before a gunshot alerts the two. They both stand up straight, staring directly at each other.
“Did that come from inside the barn..?” Chloe says with suspicion arising in her vocals.
Max pushes open the barn door. Heavy in weight though as to be suspected for its size, inside they both catch a glimpse of writing in blood. The message reads. “It’s not me, it’s YOU.”

Thirteen-year-old Max Caulfield had a sad secret. The real reason her family moved to Seattle on such short notice wasn’t for a new job or because of some whim from her parents. It was because of her. She had been diagnosed with cancer and needed to be seen by better doctors than she would have access to in Arcadia Bay.
While she fought for her life, her best friend, Chloe Price, was left in the dark. Max didn’t want Chloe to have to deal with another death after just losing her father, so in an effort to protect her, she cut off contact with her.
Seven years later, Max has slowly been losing her will to keep up the fight. But after having a fateful reunion with her former best friend, her outlook on life may begin to change.
