"Thank you for yesterday," I say, with as much conviction as I felt. The Inspector had saved my life. Beneath the gratitude, the curiosity only rose. "My aim is not like before." It feels awful to admit it in this way—as if I were admitting myself into an asylum.
The Inspector only glances up and offers a curt nod, returning to his newspaper.
Perhaps he was humble. Perhaps he did not care. Perhaps the reading in the paper was particularly good.
Whatever it was, the corner had bent back enough for me to see the slight smile on his face—a twitch at the far corner of his lips.
I knew, then and there, that his friendship was one worth seeking.

"Phoenix," he says it again because how could he not?, and his body tilts forward, strung between pulling him into a hug and offering one.
Another moment passes between them, and suddenly Phoenix is kissing him, and his lips are rough, angry, desperate—like he needed this kiss as much as he needed oxygen.
Phoenix's kisses felt like a breath of fresh air, as if he spent his days underwater and the man served to pull him back to the surface.
With Phoenix's fingers woven in his hair, tangled in knots to hold him still—this kiss felt like it was holding him under.
"Phoenix," he says, breaking away.
And Miles knows he gets it—he can see it in his eyes.
"Stop."

I'm really happy I read this and I wish I did it a year ago. (*cough* and i could've *cough* (Worst mistake of my life)) Miles' inability to say no to Phoenix is hysterical.

“Yes…” Edgeworth replied, his face a mask.
Phoenix smirked and declared, “There is a clear contradiction in your statement.”
Phoenix refuses to accept Edgeworth’s rejection and makes it his mission to reach out and rekindle their friendship. They find comfort in each other as Phoenix grieves for Mia and learns to trust again, while Edgeworth grapples with the trauma of his past and future as a prosecutor — along the way, they also fall in love. As Maya puts it, they develop a friends to enemies to friends to lovers relationship.
A romance set during Gyakuten Saiban 1.
Silly with a side of serious, plus lots of banter and fluff!

Summary

Both of them quickly learn that the ensuing journey will lead them much deeper than they had thought.
