When Marinette was a little girl, she had a friend. He never spoke, never told her his name or anything of the sort, but he was he best friend reguardless. He always followed her everywhere, people would sometimes forget he was even there because of how silent he was. Everyone called him her shadow, matching her move for move, going where she went without a word. It was a fitting name.
Shadow disappeared when Marinette turned 8, he only came back 3 years later when she was 11. He came back different, changed in ways she couldn't explain.

He has a penchant for adopting kids with tragic backstories, and you’re just his type. Dark hair and blue eyes, and he’d love that whole ‘Goody-Two-shoes’ thing you have going on. I bet he’d adopt you in a heartbeat!”
“Sure, Chloe. I’ll just send him the adoption papers with a ‘Congrats, it’s a girl!’ letter.”
