Caitlyn observes from the wall as Vi runs the routine, then comes over. She touches Vi’s lower back. Pushes, gently, guiding Vi through a rotation of her hips. Vi’s lower half lights up like a fork in a socket.
“It comes from here,” Caitlyn says. “Not so much the legs. Try it.”
Vi misses Caitlyn’s hand when she steps away. She follows the phantom push until she’s completed the sequence.
Tilting her head, Caitlyn says, “Better, but you’re stiff. Do you feel sexy?”
Vi’s been surrounded by gorgeous women every day, women with bouncier hair, longer legs, more graceful relevés. And instead of admiring them, she’s competing with them. So, no. Vi does not feel sexy.

Violet had been involved with music since she was little.
It had started with her dads; Vander taking care of his precious Gibson Les Paul from the 80s, when he’d started a garage band that had led to him meeting and marrying Silco, a classically trained pianist who wouldn’t touch the open keyboard position with a ten foot pole. Vi had been put into piano lessons as soon as she could read, and after failing miserably, she’d tried just about everything before finding she had a knack for guitar. She followed in her dad’s footsteps, developing a love for the shrieking croon of an electric guitar, brought to life under fingers worn rough calluses.

Summary
After ten years in Stillwater for a crime she didn't commit, Vi breaks herself out and goes home. Her homecoming doesn't go like she thought it would.
Two years later, she's out of control and out on the streets. She's now a champion pitfighter, a raging alcoholic, and completely on her own. Despite her family's best (and desperate) efforts to help, Vi's on a one-way track to ending up either dead or back in prison.
At the same time, Caitlyn arrives in the undercity to collect data and information for her thesis. She starts her research from a local bar called The Last Drop, which puts her right into Vi's path. Vi might have been out of her family's home for years, but she's still not going to let a topsider put them in danger.
Canon divergence (everyone lives!), enemies to lovers (barely, the lovers aspect happens fast), angst, trauma, addiction, and also fluff and humour (because these things can co-exist!)

Summary
Cait's eye is seized by the sight of a woman completely different from the rest on the website-- a dim lit room backdropping a strong, hearty butch with a black tank top slyly covering her expanse of industrial looking tattoos. Cait’s eyes lock onto her, her shoulders, her back, eyeing her movements as she slowly turns and sits in a chair, clothed legs spread wide and domineering. She feels a rouge begin to build in her cheeks, spreading out to her ears and neck. She feels hypnotized by her, watching the muscles in her neck stretch as she throws her head back in a sultry laugh, the camera just low enough to deprive Caitlyn of her face. She hovers over the window to hear the stream’s sound. She speaks, and her voice is like velvet. Smooth, husky and low, lulling Cait into pleasant heat as if she’s talking directly into her ear. Arousal humming beneath her skin, she pushes her mouse toward the link to open, reading the woman’s name.

“It’s therapy and house arrest, or Stillwater. You pick.”
Vi’s eyes narrow. She pulls one foot onto her seat, wraps her arms around her knee and inspects the dried blood beneath her fingernails. Therapy. Like she was some sad Piltie who didn’t get enough sun. “I don’t need some shrink to tell me what to do.” She mutters.
“Well, the Council says you do, so. Pick one.”
Vi’s knee bounces. She bites at a hangnail, the taste of copper sitting heavy on her tongue. Either way, it was a trap. She’d stay here, haunted by newer ghosts and picking apart wounds, or she’d be sent back to be haunted by old ghosts and inevitably get new wounds. She had no doubt everything she said in a shrink’s office would be fed back to Sevika. To Caitlyn. To whoever asked for it.
Then again, they wrote reports on the prisoners in Stillwater, too. She couldn’t imagine how many eyes had been on hers over the last decade.

Sevika leans her shoulder against the wall beside Vi, looking down at her, expression unreadable. There was a bruise forming in the shape of Vi’s knuckles on her jaw. Lucky shot. The only real hit Vi had managed to get in.
