    A Season 2 AU in which Will Graham did not, at any point, accuse Hannibal of being the Chesapeake Ripper.

    Will Graham is the smartest person most people will ever have the misfortune to meet. Hannibal Lecter has been no exception; he's brilliant, but his failing is that he assumes he's the mastermind in every situation. He still thinks Will didn't pick up on every weird joke, every coincidence, every threat disguised as a charming quip, every flashing neon sign that screams "Hannibal Lecter is the Chesapeake Ripper!"

    Now, Will has to decide what he wants from Hannibal. For the first time in his life, it seems like there's a possibility that somebody might be close enough to his level for a real connection. Hannibal is an apex predator in a garish suit, blind to Will's superior camouflage, and the Ripper's obsession with Agent Graham is so obvious it's drawing attention from... undesirable sources. If Will can manipulate everything to his desired outcome, Hannibal could become the equal Will has always wanted.

    If he wants to protect their fragile peace, it'll take a lot more than just Hannibal Lecter.

    That's fine. After all, Will has never been able to stop himself at just one stray.

    Will thought he had enough to worry about when he became the unwitting keeper of a dragon’s egg. When Alana brings a stranger to his home, he learns that the forest witch has killed again. It’s been ten years since the last time, and once again, trouble has arrived at Will’s door. He barely survived the accusations the first time; he's not sure he could do so again. Meanwhile, the eccentric Doctor Lecter has entered Will’s life like a storm. A simple exchange turns to friendship, and maybe more, as Will is forced to confront everything he thought he once knew, and in the process learns more about himself than he ever wanted to.

Sure, the bride he's standing with is his ex, and sure, he might have made out with the other best man at the bachelorette party — but that's not the biggest problem. Will's far more concerned with the fact that his fellow Best Man might just be a killer, and that may not stop them from making out again...

    Despite the yelling, the flashing lights and clicks of shutter buttons, the ever-mounting noise, Lounds’ voice cut through like the ring of a bell, sharp and high. “Mr. Graham,” she shouted, “didn’t they find you at Stammets’ table?”

    Jack Crawford repeated, “No further questions!” at the top of his lungs like a mantra. The way a child would, in combination with ears covered and eyes screwed shut, to block out an unpleasant sound.

    “Did you eat them!” Lounds yelled over the din. “Did you eat the mushrooms!”

    Will, an organic, works for the Artifice Behavioral Analysis Unit wherein he investigates heinous crimes involving synthetic persons; including homocides or syntheticides, should the victim be an Artifice. His high rate of success stems from being an empath, a rare and invaluable trait that developed in humans as a result of excess technology, granting him the ability to read the emotions of both humans and Artifices. That same talent, coupled with a compromised immune system born of long-term suppressant use, causes Will to contract a brain fever that leaves him with only two options: give up his work in the field or have an Artificial Neural Assistant implanted in his head.
