To his horror, the Wanderer felt his eyes well with tears. His hands couldn’t escape the embrace of her own to wipe them away and they tumbled down his cheeks in silver streams. His mother didn’t seem surprised, though her face was laced with concern as she watched him cry.
“I don’t know why I feel so much,” the Wanderer admitted angrily.
“And I so little,” Ei speculated, “you know, stranger, that the gods can never truly forget. Not even if the reality of this world is changed beyond recognition. All of us are part of the tree of life, and as such, memories remain. Even when escaping our consciousness, the soul remembers.”

Vox's eyes widen slightly when a message from Velvette pops up on his hud. He projects it to a thin blue hologram in front of him and reads through it.
‘Be in my studio in the next thirty minutes and DO NOT forget to install your inhibitors. I will be checking.
Don’t piss us off on your first day.’
…Right.
Vox stares at the message a little longer before swiping it out of his face. His first day as their assistant.

______________Vox is weak, depressed, and, oh yeah, kidnapped. Taken by a fellow, if minor, Overlord as an act of vengeance, he is locked in a dark web style Red Room and subjected to whatever twisted 'punishments' the denizens of hell want to give him- if they pay enough, that is. Valentino frantically tries to find him, and finds himself recruiting all forms of potential aid- including the most unwanted and unlikely ones. Old wounds crack open and bleed, new wounds struggle to heal, and through it all, the moral of the story is that people need people- no matter how much you want to deny it. Or that you're human at all, really.
