Summary
Four years ago, Shane Hollander suffered a career-ending injury after getting hit by Marlow on the ice. Despite Ilya’s best efforts to reach out, he never hears from Shane again. Nor does anyone as Shane Hollander disappears from the public eye. Complete radio silence.
That is, until Ilya receives a call from his agent, asking if he is willing to ‘say a couple of nice words on camera about Shane Hollander’. Why? Oh. Because he will be induced in the MHL Hall of Fame in three weeks. And said Canadian golden boy will likely be there.
Ilya is totally okay about this, of course.

Summary
For Shane Hollander, life has always been about playing a part. On the ice, he plays the best (or second best, depending on who you ask) hockey player in a generation. With his family, he plays the role of golden boy - kind and resilient and responsible. Even with Ilya, Shane has a part to play; reliable, happy, secure.

Summary
This fic takes place the summer Ilya signs with / moves to Ottawa, between the last chapter of Heated Rivalry and the epilogue. It takes place largely at the cottage and, inspired by the way the cottage section of HR came to life in the show, is meant to feel like we're dropping into a series of significant or particularly lovely moments between Shane & Ilya over the course of the summer.
I titled it after one of my favorite songs on the show soundtrack. I wanted it to reference the way I imagine they'd kind of settle into this next chapter of their relationship over this time period, one where they're going to be experiencing much more of what it's like to be in an actual relationship, where they're actually starting to live the life they imagined for themselves the last time they were at the cottage. Unraveling their realest, most vulnerable selves for each other, unraveling the tangled web of their long complicated history, and doing the scary work of starting the rest of their lives.
But mostly, you know, it's a lot of them just hanging out and being domestically happy together because who doesn't want that?
