Ouch. He felt the slice of her words, but drew in a breath through his nose with a singular nod to lighten their impact. "Then I will get to my paperwork.”

His look spoke volumes of how much he didn’t believe her and she cursed herself for that she even tried to lie to him. He stroked her shoulder and she was under the impression that she relaxed a little just under the warmth of his hand. She knew his touch was the equivalent of what he didn’t dare to say.
