    Gai’s chakra had always been easy to recognize. Kakashi could pick it out in a crowd, across a battlefield, even through a wall if he concentrated hard enough. He knew the particular shape of it before he knew what he was looking for.

    It was only later that he learned recognition goes both ways. By then, it was too late to pretend it could be forgotten.
     

    Or, the one where Gai and Kakashi’s chakras have imprinted. Kakashi spends years trying to convince himself it means nothing, Gai spends years figuring out why he can’t let Kakashi go.
