It’s 2 PM on a Tuesday and Jin Zixuan is curled up in the corner of a dingy basement laundry room, tears in his eyes as he struggles to understand why the universe—and this washing machine in particular—hates him.
And then the door squeaks open, and Zixuan’s only reaction is to stuff his face into his stupid quarter-zip like a cashmere fleece turtle.
“Is someone in here, or is the laundry room haunted again?” A man’s voice calls, and it’s almost jarring how friendly it is.“Again?” Zixuan hiccups.
Footsteps on the tile, and then there’s a man frowning down at him with open concern. “Aw, bud. Are you crying? Me too sometimes.” And he pops a squat, right there in front of the sad turtle man, and Zixuan gets a close up of the riot of tattoos on his arms and peeking through the gaping rips in his jeans. “I’m Wei Ying.”

Summary
From across the rink, Shane watches Ilya get punched in the face.
He keeps a distance from the mess playing out. He knows better than to go over and make it worse. He would be more worried about it if Ilya wasn’t laughing with blood running down his face as one of his teammates drags him away. He’s yelling at the player that punched him, and Shane is grateful he can’t hear what he’s saying because he knows it’s obscene.
“Your boy is feral tonight,” Pike says to Shane.
Shane groans. “He's not my boy.”When Shane is in junior high, Ilya's family moves to Canada. Instead of meeting as adults, they grow up together. Shane learns Russian and Ilya spends a majority of his time at the Hollander household. When they start their professional hockey careers, they have to learn how to be opponents instead of teammates, but also how to be apart for the first time in their lives. When Ilya suggests that they sleep together, Shane has to balance their friendship and their casual relationship.

Ilya was used to hazing. He had been subjected to it, he had participated in it, and, as a captain, he had stood guard over the rookies and protected them from anything truly harmful. But if he had been asked, Ilya would have approved of this prank. He would have authorized it, given Cliff and Vicky his seal of approval, perhaps even helped orchestrate it.
Any other day, Ilya might have been happy to play along.
But, in perfect dramatic irony, it had not happened any other day. It had happened today. And, cherry on top, of course the rookie had to walk in when Shane was already freaking out about Ilya saying his name.

A prank-gone-wrong leads to the Boston Bears finding out about Shane and Ilya’s relationship in 2016. The day Ilya first invited Shane into his house. Right after they say each other’s names for the first time. Fuck his life, honestly.

Summary
After the Tuna Meltdown, Ilya and Shane never rekindle things at All Star Weekend 2017.
A series of losses (no MCD, don’t worry) to Ilya’s life in Boston lead to him signing with the Buffalo Blizzards.
Although single, Shane comes out to his team. The Voyageurs are less than supportive. Montreal trades him to Buffalo in exchange for first draft pick in 2018.
When practice starts in September, things are awkward but fine.
But it’s Buffalo, so of course there is a big snowstorm, which leads to 48 hours of forced proximity.Series

The Raiders learn about Hollanov in a different way. Shane is very confused. Ilya loves his team. I regret nothing.

Some sex talk but mostly a lot of swearing. Also not related to my other fics really but some of the character portrayals, especially the Boston Raiders being all good guys, is in my other work too.

Summary
Just before Shane’s 30th birthday, his entire world comes to a screeching halt. A stupid mistake in Florida gets him outed, traded, depressed, enraged. And to make matters worse, Ilya Rozanov is right there to witness his entire crash and burn.
OR, Shane doesn’t get hurt playing against Boston, and Ilya does break up with him. Flash forward four years, and Shane finds himself playing for the Ottawa Centaurs, where Ilya has been captain since 2019.
