“Are— are you bloody falling asleep right now?” MacTavish demanded furiously, looking over at Ghost as the woman on screen’s wails reached a fever pitch; Ghost, who was unhurriedly rooting through a bag of candy with heavy eyes, looked up at him.
“Come on, it’s not so bad. He’s not even started taking his limbs off, yet.”

Ghost knew secrets, so he let MacTavish keep them. He didn’t need to know every little detail, didn’t need to know how he ended up with a decorative plate from Iceland or what was up with all the pillows in his house and on his sofa or if that was his cup, a lumpy thing made of clay in the back of the cupboard that had been painstakingly been painted years before and was chipping at the edges.
To Ghost’s chagrin, there was nothing in the field manual about wanting to know someone— nothing about wanting to live outside of the military, and nothing at all about being human with anyone else at all.

‘I’d do it,’ he insisted, finding Johnny’s hand and squeezing it as much as he could, voice breaking over emotions he was too drugged-up to truly comprehend. ‘Next lifetime?’
‘Aye, Simon,’ Soap nodded, lips wobbling as he was fighting back his tears, fisting Ghost’s hospital gown just a bit more desperately. ‘I’ll take ye up on that.’or
Waiting for too long, holding back in the line of duty, Simon and Johnny get another chance to find our if their banter was ever meant to be something more.
