Stede took another breath and then began to wipe softly at the charcoal and Ed. Ed just watched him.
“Thank you for the marmalade by the way.”
Ed bit his lip and then said, “Yeah, well, didn’t want you to get scurvy before I’d had a chance to deal with you properly.”
Stede laughed, just a little. Glancing up he saw Ed’s mouth quirk just a little into a small smile. Stede paused with the handkerchief still poised as they looked at one another.
“And just what were your plans for dealing with me properly, then?” he whispered.
Ed’s eyes met his again and then lowered them to Stede’s lips as more tears began to trickle down. Oh. Oh.

Summary
Things at their new home are going so great that it's honestly putting Ed a little on-edge, and he's terrified that they've only been doing so well by accident. When he has an accident that results in a nasty injury, Ed can't help but fall back into old patterns of fear and worry about his safety...but he gets to learn that Stede's going to keep loving him, entirely on purpose.
