In a world where the X-Gene only manifests itself in women, the self-dubbed DAUGHTERS OF X have divided themselves into different clans: THE GREAT HOUSES, each believing itself to be the true leaders and saviors of all their Sisters. It's been a year since Roosevelt Island, and Peter has dragged himself back together as best he can. He's rekindled his friendship with Ned, and he's getting comfortable with the idea of MJ being with Paul, but now that he's paying more attention to himself, he's found that he's burning at both ends, and there's not enough time for Spider-Man AND Peter Parker.
The streets of New York are getting restless, with new super-powered individuals popping up every day, and the X-Gene being revealed to the whole world, Peter is dragged into the center of it; as the creator of the Universal Mutation Suppressant, The Brotherhood of Mutants want his head, while the Department of Damage Control (under new management) are interested in using him to 'protect' the City.
So when a certain red-headed telepath and telekinetic asks for his help tracking down the original schematic before either side can abuse it, Peter feels obligated to help.

She followed them, to keep Peter alive, to deny the universe's next attempt at telling her she deserved nothing. But as she sat twelve floors below Spider-Man's fading mind, Jean realized no shallow telepathic trickery can stop his heart from hemorrhaging into oblivion. She needed to plunge deeper into his self... to the point they become one and his heart and blood trick themselves into thinking they beat and circle for her...
She told herself she's not invading his mind, just his everything else. She will not dig around for anything. Just here to keep her savior alive... Peter's memories brought themselves to her regardless. And this time she had no choice but to watch as they drift by... And some of them are very embarrassing as well.
