Midoriya grew up as if he was drowning, falling further and further into the ocean. Everyone knows that the deeper into the water you get, the less colour you see. This is because the longer wavelengths of colour are absorbed more and the shorter wavelengths are absorbed less. Well, Izuku has been weighted down for an awful long time. Even the shorter wavelengths are getting fuzzy. In other words, everything is grey, everything is grey and dark. And it has been that way for a long time, longer than he’d like to admit.
