Summary
Young, unattached, and freshly unemployed, Honda Kiku is the only one in the family really capable of uprooting his life to answer the call when his elderly uncle's health begins to fail - not that he has a choice, given that his father already made the call for him. Burdened with a sense of duty, Kiku picks up and moves across the world to his uncle's home in north Texas, where he sometimes feels like he might have moved to a different planet rather than a different country. Along the way he meets a young and enthusiastic meteorology student (and delivery boy) named Alfred Jones, and finds that though there's a lot he thought he didn't know about his family, there's even more he doesn't know about himself.
