    Summary

    “I’m going to die.”

    “…What?—“

“I only have three months left.”

Vi stared at her, expression unreadable, lips slightly parted—something Caitlyn didn’t look at for long.

Great. She broke her ex-wife. Why did she even tell her?

Caitlyn Kiramman has always been composed and reserved, her career-driven nature keeping her grounded. It also, inevitably, drove her marriage to its breaking point. Now, the only thing keeping her and her ex connected is their 3-year-old daughter. When Caitlyn is diagnosed with a rare, untreatable brain tumor and given just three months to live, her world begins to unravel, overwhelmed by emotions she’s spent a lifetime locking away.

But what happens when the only person she can bring herself to tell… is her ex-wife?

Violet Lanes wants nothing to do with Caitlyn—not anymore. As much as it hurts, she refuses to let herself get pulled back in. The divorce left scars she’s still learning to live with, and she’s made their daughter her one and only priority. But when Caitlyn shows up with news of her impending death, Vi is forced to confront everything she’s tried to bury.

    Summary

Vi wanted to kill them. All of them. Wanted to go back inside and paint the walls red for daring to touch her, to frighten her, to make her feel small and powerless and alone.
Instead, she reached up and cupped Caitlyn's face in her hands.
Caitlyn's breath caught. Her eyes finally lifted to Vi's, wide and wet in the moonlight.
"I'm sorry," Vi said quietly. "I should not have left you alone. Dat was my fault. It will not happen again."
    "It wasn't—you couldn't have known—"
"I should have known." Vi's thumbs brushed across Caitlyn's cheekbones, wiping away tears that hadn't quite fallen yet. "You are not a t'rall. You are not property. You are—"
She stopped. The words caught in her throat, too big, too frightening to speak aloud.
Mine. You are mine. Not because I own you. Because I would burn de world down before I let anyone hurt you.
"—safe," she finished instead. "You are safe. I will keep you safe. I swear it. I promised."

    Summary

Ask her if she reads. No, dumb—she clearly reads.
Say something about the weather. What are you, eighty?
Comment on the book. Too obvious. She’ll know you were staring.
    Just say literally anything—

“Here you go.” Vi set the coffee down gently, voice a little hoarse. “Black. No sugar. Same cupcake as last time.”

Cait looked up at her with that soft, surprised smile again—like Vi had done something remarkable just by remembering.

“Thank you,” she said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “You’re very kind.”

Vi scratched the back of her neck, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. She didn’t want to leave. She wanted to stay right there.

But her throat went dry. The café buzzed around them, and Vi’s brain—usually quick, sharp—offered nothing.

    Idiot.
    __________

As December nears, Cait arrives in Zaun, hoping to find a sense of home—something to anchor her through the harshness of military training. She finds it in a quiet café, and in the girl behind the counter who takes her breath away. Truth is, they leave each other breathless.

Neither of them is prepared for what fate has in store for their tragic, yet beautiful story.

    Summary

Vi didn’t expect much from university—just keep her scholarship, punch her way through boxing practice, and avoid rich brats with perfect facecards.

    Especially Caitlyn Kiramman.

Caitlyn is everything Vi can’t stand: privileged, polished, practically royalty on campus. She’s also infuriatingly confident, and way too attractive for Vi’s own good. And when they clash, it’s always personal.

But when a student mysteriously disappears after a party—someone close to Jinx—their world tilts. Secrets start crawling out of dorm rooms and the list of suspects hits way too close to Caitlyn’s inner circle.

Vi and Caitlyn should stay on opposite sides of this. They really, really should.

But there are late-night calls they pretend not to need. Arguments that feel more like foreplay. And something sharp and vulnerable they’ve both been trying to avoid.

    Enemies? Maybe.
    Lovers? God help them.

But first, they’ll have to survive the truth.
