"Andrus was screaming.
Zeph pulled herself up and readied the fires of her upswing of fury just to be held in place by a psionic hold. Fire sputtering in her fingertips.
“That would be unwise.” Her captors voice reverberated in the room, it took up more space in her mind than it should have. “Come now, we will make you…. Hmm… better.” She looked to Andrus, his fists pounding at the encasement, his dark eyes catching her light ones.
“Andrus!” She tried to yell but her voice fell flat. Her throat felt tight as she watched him get further away. Her arm reached out until he was out of view. Numbly, she was led into a room that smelled of blood and death. Some failed experiments were cast aside, and it caused her to tremble. The pain and fear of the next hour made her memories of the insertion of the biting worm, the tadpole, fuzzy. She remembered the moment they released her, trying to fight back, but being stopped soon after by a resounding voice in her head. She remembered the flare of panic. Then nothing. "

An Alternate Ending has been added as a second chapter
"Zephyr collapsed in front of the grave, and it looked as if the weight of everyone’s hopes and sorrows laid across her as well. Was it possible for her to look smaller and more frail? Her hands touched the dirt mound of the grave and a choked out sob was pulled from the tieflings core. It took Astarion aback, watching someone mourn over a grave. Had anyone mourned over his? He listened to the feral sounds of grief and he finally realized, once again, he was watching something he shouldn’t. {...} She had laid down now, alongside the grave, her arm flopped over it as if she was cuddling with it, holding it, bringing the dead six feet under some comfort.
Now his own conflict flitted in his chest, some anger with the need to confront her, some concern but mostly the need to leave. Why did no one, in his 200 years of death, mourn for him like this. Did they? He wouldn’t know, and neither would this boy. It was a waste of energy and emotion.

Cazador gets his hands on the daughter (tav) of the Elven goddess Sehanine and a common mortal, hoping to manipulate the girl over time and obtain the favor of her protection while he prepares for his Ascension, during which he plans to sacrifice her to gain more power than any devil could ever promise him.
Unfortunately, as the plans for his Ascension become more and more concrete, his ward is summoned every night by the sweet cries of the most tortured out of all his slaves, and she cannot bear to leave his side.
Meanwhile, it has become increasingly obvious to Astarion that his Master does in fact have a weakness, a certain someone he keeps locked away and safe... there is nothing Astarion wants more than to snuff that little light out of Cazador's eyes, no matter if it's the last thing he ever does.

Astarion wondered if perhaps this was going to be the end. He knew he should feel something— anything if this was going to be how he died. Astarion reached to try and find an emotion; scared, angry, happy?
Astarion felt nothing. He wanted to run and hide to lick his wounds. He wanted to be free of this pain and agony.
He was so hungry and tired.
Maybe he would finally get his wish.
[Astarion was never picked up by the Nautiloid. When he is tasked to bring a new victim home, he ends up getting captured and taken prisoner. It is only a matter of time before Cazador starts looking for him-- he doesn't know what he should fear more.]
