“You can’t know that,” Adam said quietly. Someone and their cart rattled behind him, probably trying to get past, but he was two weeks away from a letter that would decide the rest of his life and was also in crisis about being in love with his best friend and the person behind him probably wasn’t either of those things. So he felt like an asshole but also kind of felt like he had earned the right to have a private conversation in the baking supply aisle for a few seconds.
(it's spring break at the gansey cabin, which is a much more emotional experience than adam would have expected)

“Is it dreamt?” Ronan asks. Adam is better than him at identifying the leftover dreamt objects. He can feel dream energy in a way that Ronan can’t.
Adam shakes his head.
Relief washes over Ronan. He had loved his father very much, but there was something strangely comforting about a story untouched by his father’s wild imagination. “Good. It doesn’t have some fucked up ending then.”

Summary
Adam’s internal body clock wakes him just before dawn. It wakes him just as the heavy purples of night dissolve to a softer lilac, a gold hue of pink and orange following suit over the distant, looming silhouette of mountains hiding the returning sun.
Adam always forgets how quiet it is at the Barns in the morning, how quiet it is to be the only thing awake in this fantastical pocket of eternal sleep.
