Dex gets kicked out the break before the dib flip. This is how he tries to hide it.
Dex had been a massive asshole about the dib flip. He knew it, everyone else was witness to it, and he planned to apologise as soon as he got his wits about him because it wasn’t on and really wasn’t fair to Nursey. And it causes an ache in his chest to see how it had hurt Nursey to see Dex react like that.
But he didn’t have a place to live if he hadn’t gotten that room.

“Think about it, bro,” Nursey says, his tone aiming for persuasive, as he hands him a dishcloth; their fingers touch, briefly, and Dex can practically feel the heat from his cheeks rising all the way up to the roots of his fucking hair, and all the way down to the base of his throat. He spares a second to be thankful for the relative cover the counter provides, and then Nursey adds, “C already has a date. It’s just us left, and Ransom and Holster are cool guys, but Bitty told me all about his Winter Screw frosh year and I’m not feeling it.”
Dex wrinkles his nose, recalling something about Bitty’s date throwing up on him, and okay, Nursey might have a point there.
“Sometimes I think their definition of ‘fun’ doesn’t really align with the rest of the world’s,” Dex mutters, drying the pipe up with a couple of perfunctory wipes, clucking his tongue when he notices the fittings being a little loose, before reaching back for his pipe wrench.

Summary
Before the start of the year, Nursey had a few ideas about how he and Dex would make sharing a room work.
He imagined rules about socks on doors, about texts warning of visitors. He pictured an allotted quiet time so he could get some reading done. Nursey imagined weekends rooming with Chowder to give Dex time to cool off, or weekends with Dex rooming with Chowder to give Nursey some space. They were better than they were as frogs, and even better than the year after that, but they still weren’t great. Nursey anticipated a lot of pushback, a lot of struggle.
He didn’t expect them to start having sex?

Summary
Dex wasn't expecting too much out of his softie year at Samwell. All he'd really wanted was to get good grades, maybe adopt a tadpole or two, and not allow his feelings for Nursey to become too unmanageable. Dex hadn't thought it was that much to ask for.
Of course, despite his intentions, Dex somehow ended up mentoring his tadpole in the ways of sex (he is not a sex yoda so stop calling him that, Whiskey), stripping himself bare for his teammates in more ways than one, and platonically dating his best friend/unrequited love of his life.

Summary
Four years after graduating from Samwell, Nursey can honestly say he loves his life.
He just finished his third novel. He eats like a somewhat responsible adult. He lives in a small two-bedroom apartment with his best friend, who cooks them fancy Instagram recipes for dinner and binges new Netflix series with Nursey on the couch and knows how to deal with the anxious voice in Nursey's head better than anyone (especially Nursey).
And yeah, Nursey is kind of totally in love with Dex, has been for going on five years thereabouts, and all of Nursey's friends and family are adamant that the feelings are reciprocated and Nursey should just go for it , but, well. He and Dex have a good thing going, and maybe something romantic could be good, too, but the prospect of ruining what they have is terrifying enough for Nursey to let things just stay the same.
Then there's a car accident, a transfer of guardianship, and a little baby girl with the widest smile Nursey has ever seen, and the change becomes inevitable. -

Dex had barely kissed anyone before coming to Samwell, and now he's going out with Nursey he doesn't want to end up disappointing him. After some avoidance, they eventually sort it out.
Dex hadn’t been kissed before coming to Samwell.
And he hadn’t done much more since that at all. In fact, he hadn’t done anything else after that drunken kiss in the Haus bathroom with a guy he thinks is on the football team.
Which is one of the reasons that going out with Nursey is so daunting.

There’s a second where he doesn’t think about the dusty school yard or Raymond Poindexter or the Holy Bible; it’s just Nursey’s soft lips and soft everything else- fingers and voice and temperament, the way he makes Will feel at ease just before he pushes him off the edge, the gentle way he’s pressing their bodies together and the potential it all has to soften him out, too.
And then it all comes crashing down, and the smell of the hospital, and his father’s breath, and fish guts overwhelms him.
