Until the Ultimate Match is found. Then you get to leave, and they say you get to love.
But Derek thinks love is a little more complicated than that - and he keeps matching with Will, who trusts that this is how the System is supposed to be. Will they ever find their Ultimate Matches?

Summary
At the beginning of his senior year, Nursey immediately (if unwillingly) realizes two things in quick succession.
One: A large portion of the Samwell student body is apparently into Dex, even if the guy is completely oblivious to this fact.
And two: For reasons that Nursey refuses to verbalize, he has a pretty big problem with that.

“That’s not what I’m—”
“It is,” Nursey interrupts gently.
Dex takes care of him in so many ways that Nursey can’t even name them all. Not only with coffee and cleaning and handy work, he just cares. He wants to know how Nursey is, checks in on him; there’s a touch of love behind it all that makes Nursey delirious and hopeful if he thinks about it for too long.
Dex blinks a few times before his eyebrows pull together in thought. “What if I like taking care of you?”

Within half a second, Dex is wide awake.
He pats Nursey’s shoulder a few times where his hand can reach it. “Nurse, wake up.” Nursey just grumbles and burrows deeper into Dex’s chest. “Nursey, you have to wake up, this is important.”
Nursey makes another unwilling noise. “What could be so important at, like, seven in the morning?"
“It’s ten,” Dex corrects, “and the team knows. About us.”
That gets Nursey to lift his head and look at Dex, a confused frown pulling at his eyebrows. “What? How?”
Or, seven times Nursey and Dex's kisses end up in pictures, and one time they don't.

Summary
What he and Dex had moving into sophomore year was special. They finally listened to each other to understand instead of listening to say something louder or more correct afterwards. There was a lot to unlearn, and Derek realized that when Dex wasn’t being stupid he was really, really hot.
Dex and Nurse were solid. They had talked the hard talks, they had screamed the rough fights. They were finally on the same page, both on and off the ice, and their time at Samwell was currently sailing clear into It Couple territory.
Until it wasn’t.

William Pointedexter doesn't know which is worse--that everyone kinda thinks he's a designationist conservative asshole or that every time Derek Nurse steps on the ice he totally looses control of his biology and wants to growl at every alpha and beta player even thinking about checking him. He’s always thinking about Dex, these days; it’s like when he had gotten lost on the trains when he was home one summer, and a man had pointed to a station in the middle of the map and explained, “Everything leads back here.”
He turns and sees Will cupping his hands around his mouth, whooping as one of his compsci mentors does a truly ugly two step across the stage. The sun is shining onto his hair, not through it, and he’s smiling in a way Derek never thought he would allow himself to.
Everything leads back here, Derek thinks. His fingers are tingling from how Dex had filled his arms when they hugged each other goodbye.

Summary
The professor has resumed her lecture by the time the girl slides into the seat beside Derek, but he's not paying much attention anymore. The girl beside him smiles again and offers a formal hand. "Hey," she says softly as Derek shakes her hand. "I'm Sierra."
Sierra is the kind of girl Derek always imagined being with. She's chill, smart, and beautiful, and she has no trouble keeping up with his friends. She's into literature but also gets hockey, and her smile could cause a captain to beach his ship. She's everything he's ever wanted, but reality often doesn't stand up against imagination.
While Derek tries to love Sierra the way he wants to, Dex becomes his favourite person to be around, due in part to the fact that Dex is the only member of SMH less invested in Derek's relationship than Derek himself.

Nursey invites Dex to visit over the summer after their first year. Dex invites him back.
"Honestly, Dex didn’t know what Nursey was thinking. Sure, they’d chirped about missing each other over winter break, but Dex never thought it would go past chirping...but the plans had been made. Nursey’s parents would pick them up from move-out and drive them back to New York, they’d stay for a week, Dex and Nursey would fly up to Rockland, stay for a week, and Nursey would fly back."

It felt good, laughing with Dex. Warm and fuzzy and Derek enjoyed it. He was a poet, he couldn’t help but fall in love with little things every day. The soft ray of sunlight shining on a tree by the lake, Dex’s laugh right that moment, the way Bitty folded Jack’s sweater with love in his eyes, the rustling of paper in the library close to midterms. It was nothing unusual and Derek loved it.

Receiving love letters with poetry from a secret Valentine is kind of a romantic dream come true for Nursey. He likes being wooed and he likes that this person - whoever they may be - seem to know him so well. Summary
When the team is discussing their summer plans and Nursey reveals he's going to be spending the entire summer alone in New York, Dex can't stand how sad he looks before he manages to laugh it off. Sure he and Nursey have just barely become friends, but he can't just abandon his teammate to suffer through a miserable summer. He's already offering for Nursey to spend the summer with him before the rational part of his brain reminds him that literally anyone else on the team would likely have been Nursey's preferred option. He's sure hes going to be saved from his own stupidity by getting politely turned down, but of course he's not that damn lucky, and now he's going to have to spend the next four months seeing Derek 'Chill out man' Nurse every day. Maybe he'll just drown himself. Or maybe he'll drown Nursey instead.
I.e. Will's drive to big brother everyone is too strong, and Nursey thinks even spending the summer with Dex is better than spending it alone.

In all honesty, Nursey had known this day would come. Maybe not this exact day, and definitely not in this fashion, but with his horrible timing and ability to be at the exact wrong place at the exact wrong time, making it 20 years before witnessing a murder was almost impressive.
He just hadn’t expected to know the murderer.
Written for the prompt: Person A is lost in the woods in the middle of the night when they come across Person B in the middle of murdering someone.

Dex doesn’t know when it starts. He supposes right after a kegster, when they’re both far too drunk to have any inhibitions. And when you take equally drunk teenage boys, it’s almost guaranteed that they’re going to think about sex at one point or another, and thinking when drunk often leads to doing, so that’s how Dex ends up waking up in Nursey's dorm to skin touching skin, all sticky and covered in sweat.

Nursey regards him for a moment, searching his face for any little giveaway, then cracks a grin. “You’re superstitious,” he declares, amused.
“What?” Dex repeats, “no! I’m definitely not superstitious. Where the hell did you get that?”
“You so are,” Nursey says, full of glee, and his grin only widens when he spots the telltale flush crawling up Dex’s neck all the way to his cheeks. It nearly drowns out Dex’s freckles.
“Am not!”
“Are too.”
Dex folds his arms in front of his chest, you know, like a petulant child. “Am not!”
Nursey snickers. “What other superstitions do you have? C’mon, you can tell me.”
Or, five times Dex chooses Nursey and one time Nursey chooses Dex.
