Summary
After almost 6 years in prison during which he was simultaneously built up and torn down, Mickey is free and embarking on a brand new life in New York City. Everything is different and yet some things never change - even if he wishes they would. Coming to terms with a new life while contending with the old is harder than anything he could have imagined.
Slow burn. Canon divergent after ep 6.1. Tags will update as we get into the shit storm that has been Mickey’s life. It gets very dark in places, but is ultimately about hope and overcoming past horrors. There will be a happy ending - eventually.
I’m just trying to work through their issues and bring it to a happy end because I think Mickey and Ian deserve that.

When Ian finally kissed him, it felt like a benediction, like the prayers that his Ma used to whisper in the dark silence when she thought that Terry couldn’t hear her. Mickey’s lungs felt like they were on fire, there were flames licking at his ribcage but instead of forcing Ian away so that he could put them out, Mickey pulled him closer, twining his fingers in the man’s hair so that he could anchor them both because Ian was shaking like he was breaking apart and Mickey was the glue covering his seams.
