This was a fight, after all. But that didn’t mean it was any of his business. He staged an accident specifically so it wouldn’t be his business. And it had worked. Bacon was not letting his hard work go to waste. As for Mane, well, he wouldn’t be a problem. Bacon was confident in that. Mapic had stalked Bacon for six months, seeing if he reacted to anything auditory, before finally giving in. That wasn’t half the time Mapic had spent stalking Zam, though, so Bacon considered himself lucky.
He'd been doing this for six years. He knew how to act deaf. He knew how to make everyone ignore him. Mane would give up after a little bit just like the others and leave him alone. It wouldn’t be a problem.
Superhero AU where Bacon is a (supposedly) deaf janitor who can't use his powers and Mane is an annoying villain who does not believe believe him.

He was in the middle of digging out a practically large quartz from the earth when he heard a branch snap from across the small stream.
His head whipped up, looking into the dense woods ahead. Usually the boy would just assume it was an animal, but his gut said otherwise. Something whispered at the back of Tommys head, telling him to be alert.
He picked up his basket, moving back a few steps to the forest's edge. He always trusted his gut, having identified the difference between anxiety and intuition ages ago.
That's when he heard a long whistle cut through the air like a knife. It was a rythemless tune, as if beckoning him to whistle back.
Oh yeah, he needed to get the fuck out of here, like now.

A wheezing laugh escaped Dream, and Tommy thought he was going to faint.

OR, Tommy runs away from his neglectful family and finds friendship in the man he stabbed.

Summary
Wilbur Soot, Private Detective, has gotten into plenty of bad situations, but this one leaves him bleeding in an alleyway with no idea who he can call for help.
Help does come but in the form of one of the most dangerous crime bosses in the city. Wilbur expects Philza to tell him that he's indebted to him now and for his whole life to be ruined, but that isn't quite the case. Because it's Philza who claims he owes a debt to Wilbur.

“I-I have a favor to ask,” whistling words came from the mouth of the dying man. "D-deliver this message to my family," his breaths were erratically, coughing blood that started to fill his airtight mask, "A-and tell them... that I am truly sorry."
Boreas felt his heart sink deep within himself when he saw the addressee of the letter.
