Summary
With the promise of anything his heart desires, a surefire ticket out of the poverty he and his mother are stuck in, Daniel LaRusso enters his name into the lottery for the annual Walk. Given the sheer number of volunteers, no one seriously expected him to get picked, even laughed at the thought, but when the fateful letter arrived in the mail, the laughter halted. Getting his pack and tying his shoes, Daniel arrives at the starting line, stands among the 100, and waits for his chance at glory.
It was supposed to be straightforward, walk until you couldn't, but the annoying boy, Johnny Lawrence, who insists on walking next to him is making survival itself harder than it should be. As the walk goes on, as the sun beats down and the boys begin to drop, as Daniel's body starts to break, maybe Johnny Lawrence will become more than an annoyance. Maybe he'll become a lifeline.
