Set in the world of my longer fic The Viscount Who Loves Someone Else, this little side-story features Anthony Bridgerton in a more explicit mood than usual, and Jamie, my adventurous original redheaded menace, in one of his least sensible ones. After Anthony leaves him behind for yet another evening with Miss Sheffield, Jamie decides he has had quite enough of being managed, corrected, and tidily put aside. A reckless visit to the Cocoa Tree seems an excellent way to prove he can do very well without Anthony Bridgerton.
It does not go according to plan.
Written for a dfic-tac-toe challenge on Discord, and contains bare bottom corner time, figging, orgasm denial, a rather strict dominant Anthony Bridgerton, domestic discipline of his eighteen-year-old ward, and very dubious consent.

Summary
While we wait for the second installment of Season 4 of Bridgerton, I seem to have written a version of Benedict’s story that is… somewhat less gentle.
There will be no Sophie in this fic. So don’t send me hate comments about that. I really do like her but Benedict ending up with a boy was more plausible for me. And it just popped up after reading something’s about the Napoleontic war.
Instead, this is a more historically grounded and therefore more complicated, Cinderella tale. War has consequences. Beauty has currency. Patronage is rarely innocent. And love, when it appears, must navigate all of that. I do condone war, disciplining and abusing people especially minors but history was grim and I do thing it can teach us to prevent misery in the future.
I was thinking about this story and why it’s gripping me at the moment. The fundamental theme is about the ability to trust and love again after deep trauma. So the tags are heavy, the message is hopeful.
Jamie and Anthony are not abandoned. Their story continues. This is simply another thread in the same world, darker, perhaps, but no less romantic.

George always tried to be fair when it came to Bucky. He knew the boy got in more fights than was good for him, but he also knew his reasons why. His opinions of how Sarah dealt with her son were ones he kept to himself — he loved Steve like he was his own, but the boy could find trouble in an empty paper bag, and he’d drag Bucky right along with him.
“What happened?” he asked as he approached the men gathered around.
Now he was closer, he saw that as well as Bucky, twelve year old Eddie, and twin ten-year-olds, Nate and Tim, were also in their fathers’ grasps. John, one of Bucky’s uncles, released his hold on Bucky and gave him a nudge back over to George, who placed a calming hand on his shoulder. He could feel the tension under his palm, and gave a squeeze.

“I’m not Morgan. Stop treating me like I’m four,” Peter spat back. Who in the hell said things like ‘listening ears’ to teenagers?
“Then stop acting like it! You got stabbed, fighting enhanced criminals with alien weapons, neither of which you are allowed to do, while you are still grounded and weren’t even supposed to be patrolling.”
Steve is displeased with Peter’s actions, to say the least.
