    Summary

Daggers are daggers no matter where people choose to pierce; it was there all along, lingering in the air just like the promise of another downpour on Singapore.
He wasn’t blind enough not to see it, only slightly too optimistic.
The car roars under him and Daniel takes it all in, the smell of fuel so persistent it almost feels like a solid presence by his side, a tiny devil perched over his left shoulder – fast. Fast. Faster.
This is the kind of shit you can’t make up. Him and his tin can of a car against the world. Score that point, Ricciardo. If it’s about time you go, go with a bang and not with your heart shattered into a million pieces and your pockets full of regret.
Maybe this is how glory is achieved, after all. Because the bishop plays a crucial role in a match and this is a match he can’t afford to surrender to his opponent.
He goes on full throttle. He’s not even sweating anymore, he’s just quietly sitting in the very heart of the hurricane, he is the hurricane.
    You cannot script a hurricane.

As he gets one last, fastest lap to steal a single vital point for Max's championship, Daniel thinks over the journey so far.

    Summary

“Good morning. I thought you were dead, you know?”
Marc’s voice jerks him awake like he’s been slapped with a wet, cold towel. He was floating in the peaceful, groggy mud of a slow awakening, but now he’s fully alert, and he’s –
    Well.
He supposes he should get angry with himself, to begin with, but he’s just too spent to actually summon enough energy for it. He peers at Marc, though he’s sure it will give him an extra migraine, and he isn’t entirely surprised when he finds him half collapsed on a stool, pressing an ice pack to his forehead, wearing his sunglasses in the somnolent, milky light and frowning at the plate in front of him, probably debating with himself whether he should finish up his breakfast or not.
    “What time is it?”
Valentino gags, the sensation of his tongue dragging along the dry insides of his mouth particularly nauseating now that he’s awake. Marc’s neck snaps towards his general direction, and it looks like his head could roll on the floor at any moment, too heavy for his own bones.
“Late. Three in the afternoon, more or less. Three and a half at most.”

The morning after and the night before: a mistake in two acts.

    Summary

“Interesting. You think you’re hallucinating me?”
Marc snorts ungracefully, his eyes wet at the corners. Even though Valentino is not real, he doesn’t want to give him the satisfaction of crying, not when he’s caught up in his arms, unable to wriggle himself away.
“Yeah, of course. The real you – the real Valentino would have never come all this way just to…what, hold me and sing me to sleep? Come on. Be for real, tío.”
“I wasn’t thinking about singing you to sleep, honestly. I’m quite bad at it, you would laugh at me instead of sleeping.”
Marc humors the hallucination, sticking his tongue out and blowing something akin to a raspberry. It comes out warped, shallow, but he’s made the effort and that’s – quite a lot, considering that he has spent the past thirty-six hours wallowing in self pity, still and unmoving until all of his joints and muscles screamed and spasmed, forcing him to change positions.

Marc believes he's tripping on his pain meds when Valentino shows up at his door, determined to help him with a particularly vicious fit of insomnia that has been keeping him awake for thirty-six hours straight.

    Summary

“Can we go back in? I want you to fuck me, please.”
He doesn’t know why he says it out loud. Doesn’t know how he manages to blame his flush on the cold wind whipping his face either. Daniel grabs his chin, gently, forces their eyes to meet. Max tries to look at his stupid ass double socks instead, but Daniel’s stubborn, even more than him.
“We’ve talked about this, Maxie. Sex is not a punishment, remember?”
Oh, they did discuss it. They discussed the way Max sometimes punishes himself with grueling hours on the simulator, how sometimes he gives himself a migraine because he leaves his corrective glasses on the nightstand on purpose. They discussed all the things that make Daniel the well adjusted adult between them and, frankly, it feels a little humiliating.
“What if I tell you I really, really want to have sex with you now?”

When the cameras aren't rolling, Max is not that chill about being relegated to the midfield, after all.

    Summary

However, of all the colorful characters who walked through the automatic doors, there was one who was in a league of his own. A regular customer who had become the bane—and, secretly, the most entertaining headache—of his closing shifts.

He first showed up three weeks ago, just as Marc was already holding the mop to clean the floor. The sound wasn’t that of just any car, but the deep, clear, and arrogant roar of a high-displacement engine that came to a stop right in front of the store’s large window.

Marc looked up from the wet floor and saw him get off the motorcycle. The guy wasn’t exactly a young whippersnapper, but he moved with a confidence that really threw off the vibe. He took off his helmet with practiced nonchalance, shaking out some unruly curls where a few gray hairs were already peeking through, and fixed his bright blue, mischievous eyes directly on Marc’s through the glass.
