Summary
Legolas had years to love Emma.
He knew her first as a child in Rivendell, carrying the last traces of a life fire had taken from her. Years later, after three years away, he returned to find a woman whose mortal urgency unsettled his long, careful life.
And when that love was no longer something he could mistake for tenderness, he feared the shape of it:
“I do not want to touch something so brief with hands that will last too long.”
By the time he understands what silence has cost him, Emma is already on the road to Mordor, carrying far more of the Ring’s shadow than anyone expected.Then Faramir finds her in Ithilien.
He does not owe anything to the silence that shaped her. He only sees the woman in front of him: wounded, stubborn, alive. And he asks for something smaller than eternity, but no less dangerous:
