He scoffed, rolling his eyes with fond amusement.
“Samira loves mushrooms and she knows I hate them.” Emery could swear there was a soft smile on his face. “She keeps stealing them from my meals.”

It had been more common for Dr Jack Abbot to share his Night shifts with one Dr Mohan, a fact that had made Jack both nervous and excited. Which was ridiculous, considering that he was not only a grown man but had done far more nerve racking things on a daily basis than flirting with Samira Mohan.
Yet here he was, like a nervous schoolboy,
Part of him knew that Samira’s allure was the fact she had been untouchable. A brilliant, gorgeous mind that Jack had the luxury of conferring with on cases. And then of course he had got to know the woman behind all those research papers he had shared with her. Of course she had to be empathetic and caring. Strong willed enough to hold her own against not only her superiors but the world.
And just because it had been a while didn’t mean that Jack had forgotten how to date. How to flirt.
He started simple; coffee, just coffee.
Which is possibly why Samira doesn’t think too much of it when Jack appears in the doorway of the office, ready to save her from the paperwork hell that had kept her two hours post shift.

“What is it that you’re not telling me about this new Mer?” Samira couldn’t help but challenge, she hadn’t got over a decade on the job, and over double that amount as Heather Collins’ friends to not know when the Marine Biologist was keeping secrets. “You were pretty vague about the rescue.”
Heather sighed, rubbing at her forehead. The action immediately had Samira on edge, Heather was rarely this… off. The only time she had ever seen the woman so stressed was when dealing with Gloria, their current manager of Pittsburgh Aquarium and Rehabilitation Centre (PARC for those who can’t be bothered).
“You got the details on his injuries?”
Samira nodded, “Partial amputation, damage to the caudal fin - heard Walsh was calling him Toothless.”

Taron frowns at her, clearly confused if not a little offended.

“Everything alright?” her shoulders sagged at the sound of his voice, the one she would recognise anywhere, had practically been trained to recognise. Maybe she should have thought more into the fact that she was suddenly calmer, that it was only now that she could breathe easier that she noticed how on edge she had been. “Dr Mohan.”
Samira doesn’t look at Abbot, she just keeps her eyes locked on Taron as she leans against the bar.

For funsies, (and angst) i've added in a couple of pseudo memories from Jason's time in the great beyond.
