Season 2 Thraxa AU.
Mark has a lot of time to think about his life and his heritage when Cecil was testing his loyalty after Chicago. After his best friend Willam encourages him to help an alien race, Mark decides to try and be the hero he thought his father was.
Mark shouldn’t have been surprised that William insisted on coming to an alien planet, or that his friend excelled at getting along with people, even if they were an entirely different race.
When the Viltrumites come to Thraxa looking for the soldier who abandoned his post, they are all too eager to test Nolan’s son, and end the life of the infant.
Or: Mark and William learn about Thraxa, themselves, and what it means to try and defend people.

He smirked but didn't laugh. Instead, he carefully stepped closer. The hallway light caught her face—wet lashes, bruised knuckles, split lip. He'd seen her wrecked before, but this was different.
"Come here," he beckoned, voice low.
Rae narrowed her eyes but didn't move. "Why?"
"Because you're dripping on the floor and pretending you're fine. And I don't believe you."
She didn't say anything, she just looked at him sharply. The kind of look that could cut you out or pull you in, depending on the person. Mark seemed the latter, she'd begrudgingly admit.
