Sammy squinted at them. “You aren’t pulling my leg here, right? This isn’t a joke? ‘Ha ha, we pranked the new guy into thinking he walked into a wormhole?’”
“Not into a wormhole, dude. Beside one. Uh, wormhole-adjacent." Ben patted his shoulder sympathetically. "This all probably seems a bit overwhelming, but don’t worry. You’ll eventually get used to it all.”
“There’s more?” Sammy demanded, looking vaguely scandalized.
Ben grinned, and spread out his arms. “Welcome to King Falls Laboratories,” he said with a flourish. “The foremost center for extradimensional research.”

“I just introduced myself,” Jayce repeats defensively. He’s not sure what’s wrong with that, but the look on Viktor’s face is withering.
“You gave Singed your name,” Viktor says bluntly, “Offered it up on a platter, and he took it from you. He holds your name now, and he is free to command you as he sees fit.”
Jayce’s brain short-circuits. “What?”
Viktor walks over to one of the many piles of books and picks up one of the thicker, dustier tomes. “Humans are all the same,” he mutters. “You all are obsessed with the arcane and what can be done with it, but you never take the time to learn the rules.”

After Viktor goes missing, Jayce takes matters into his own hands, then accidentally gets himself imprisoned right alongside his partner. Or, the fae-au.

Summary
The girl’s shoulders hunch again. An expression is battling on her face. Guilt again, and fear, and shame. And then faintly, in the soft turn of her cheek, commiseration. She watches Gustave for a long, sad moment, and then turns to a new page in the notepad. She starts writing something, and then stops, glancing furtively at Gustave before scribbling it out. On a new line she instead writes in big bold letters:
Maelle.
OR
Gustave is the local mechanic of Lumiere, an idyllic coastal village far away from the chaos and conflict of Paris. Struggling with his recent injury and the loss of a good friend, he's not quite prepared when a family moves into the abandoned Manor on the edge of town.
He's definitely not prepared for their children.
