After a series of unfortunate events, Childe—Tartaglia, Duke of Morepesok and a general of Snezhnaya—ends up in Liyue Harbour, met with all the proper courtesies. Welcomed by Rex Lapis, however, might be an overstatement. Despite his stay in the esteemed Yujing City, not once does he catch sight of the Emperor.
But Childe has a plan of his own to seek out the Emperor of Liyue—and the Ministry of Rite’s enigmatic consultant, Mr Zhongli, is his key to doing just that.

Reading this at work wasn't my brightest idea because now I want to curl up and cry, but also, this is so well written and the way I could feel all the pain, the longing, the bitterness and, ultimately, the empty hollow of loss despite knowing it was coming... fuck man, I love this so much.

Summary
An accidental magical bonding isn't how Childe wanted to become a father, but parents don't really get to choose their children, do they? He's only giving up a year of his life, just until the baby can bond with her birth father, but it's still a year of his life. Besides, he and Zhongli aren't on the best of terms--not any more--and now, they're stuck raising a baby together. It's alright, though. It has to be. And all he has to do is not get attached.
(Aka: Childe accidentally bonds himself to a baby adeptus, tries not to get attached, and then gets very attached.)
