Kaveh used to think that Alhaitham had mastered the art of ignoring him. The man would remain unflappable as he continued to read his worn copy of The Origins of Enkanomiyan Language, even when Kaveh was a hair’s breadth away from shattering the windows of their house with his severity of pitch.
No amount of screaming, threats to throw things, or violently waving in front of him could get Alhaitham to pause in his thirst for knowledge. As it turns out, Alhaitham literally just turns his hearing aids off so he doesn’t have to listen to Kaveh.
It’s for this exact reason that Kaveh has decided to learn Sumerian Sign Language.

“There is no we.” He turns his back and hurls his ruined pen into the floor, gripping onto his growing hair. It hasn’t been them for a long time, for every lonely toothbrush, for every empty chair, for every cup of coffee Satoru made himself because nobody else was there to do it. “Nothing about this is simple.”
“So you’re just giving up?” He shouts, disbelief cracking through his tone.
“Yes! I’m giving up. Look around Suguru, look at how many times I haven’t given up!” The volume bleeds, it slices razor incisions up his trachea. “I can’t anymore.”
Or Satoru curses himself at death, tailoring his own hell to save the first person he let down.
It’s a difficult endeavour for someone selfish and unwilling with a faulty moral compass.
This has become my Magnum Opus
