Lucy says, almost without thinking, “I don’t want to.”
Because she doesn’t. Because sleeping means dreaming and Lockwood knows exactly what dreaming entails right now. And then there’s the cold, which still hasn’t retreated, even with the cape and the tea and Lockwood’s arm pressed in a warm line along her own while they drank it.
He doesn’t answer, just takes her by the hand and leads her from the kitchen, flicking off the lights as they go. And she lets him, because she’s tired and aching, and because it’s Lockwood doing it.
(or, recovering from walking in the land of the dead isn't easy, but lockwood and lucy are giving it their best shot.)

maybe he shouldn't let the man pick his reactions apart just to offer him the sharp ends of his scraps, knowing jake would take it for being compliant, for being so desperate to prove. maybe he knows he shouldn't be feeling so compelled to make the man happy. maybe, but who else would forgive him over and over despite knowing his many flaws as an idol?
jake maintains the eye contact with a breathless pause before he's saying shakily, "yes, manager-nim. i'll do it for you. i can do that."
the manager grins that sharp, satisfied grin that makes jake feel like he's doing something right for once.
and so the dog swallows the bone.

Summary
Jake is the golden retriever—always smiling, always listening, always there. His members love him, but they also rely on him to be the emotional sponge. He keeps taking in everyone’s stress, heartbreaks, insecurities, and doesn’t let them see how much it drains him.
He doesn’t cry. Doesn’t snap. Doesn’t complain.
He just… fades a little.
He becomes quieter. Laughs more robotically. Stays up later and later. Starts canceling plans. His room gets messy. His texts are short. His hugs get looser. And no one seems to notice.
Except Jungwon.
One of the maknaes who’s always been “wise beyond his years” starts noticing the cracks in Jake’s golden image. The fake laugh. The silence after everyone else has gone to bed. The way Jake never talks about his own day, even when asked.
Jungwon tries—gently—to check in, but Jake brushes him off. Says he’s fine. Smiles too quickly. Changes the topic.
Jungwon doesn’t push him. But he starts watching closer.
And little by little, that care starts turning into something else.
