Summary
After SBURB ended, the game decides to spit out an unsuspecting Davesprite - now unfused from Davepeta - into an alternate universe. All alone, Davesprite, now named Qrow, must navigate a world without SBURB and Davepeta. One small problem: This universe’s Dave, youngest of the 4 Strider brothers, is dead, and has been for 3 years.
Dirk Strider lost his little brother who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Years have gone by and Dirk still isn't over the loss. Fate is cruel, and on the anniversary of Dave's death, he encounters a person who he is convinced is Dave. With old wounds reopened, Dirk is determined to bring him home, whether he likes it or not.

Summary
“Dirk…” is about as far as you get. He huddles somehow even further into himself and your heart breaks. You take a deep, shaky breath, willing any words to leave your lungs.
You try again. “You know you can tell me anything, right?”
You hear him take in his own shaking breath, his head curled into his own shoulder, his knees drawn up to his chest. He nods slowly without lifting his head. You want so badly to do something, to take his pain away, but you still don't even know what's wrong. And so, all you can do is keep your hands to your chest as you wait.
Finally he lifts his head. He slides his feet down the mattress, no longer curling so completely in on himself. His knees still sit slightly bent in front of him, his hands on his shins holding them in place as if to curl up again at a moment's notice. He angles his head toward you, but with how close he is you can see his eyes focused on the sheets below rather than your own. His voice is quiet but steady when he speaks.
“I was going to kill myself.”

Dave wakes up to his stoic sixteen year old son standing in his doorway, voice breaking as he asks to sleep in his bed tonight. And he knows something is wrong.

--DISCONTINUED - LATEST CHAPTER EXPLAINS WHY--
karkat vantas, being of somewhat sound mind and body, decides to help out dave, a friend of a friend-friend who appears to be in need. just one night, that couldn't hurt anything. karkat soon after gets an ache to help more, though.
meanwhile, dave strider is finding the pressures of homelessness increasingly difficult to cope with. it's the middle of winter, the wet season is near, and this begins to bring bad tidings for a street performer who relies on his very intelligent pet cat.
