Zuko turned his head. "There's someone else in there! We have to do something!" he shouted over the roar of the flames.
His colleague Jet grabbed him by the arm. "Zuko, it's too late! We can't go back in there—the smoke will kill us!".
"How can you say that?!" he snapped angry.
Jet pointed at the inferno, his eyes wide: "Look at the fire! If you go in there, you'll never come out!".
Zuko breathed heavily but his gaze was determined. "Then so be it. I'm going."
"Zuko, NO!" several voices shouted at once as he started to run.
The flames lashed out at him like a living monster. The heat pressed against his skin. This is madness. But there's someone in there. And if he gives up now, they'll die.

Summary
His leg hurts. It’s the pressure from the storm outside, it makes the scarring all over his body ache, but the port in his thigh is the worst. Everything else is like static, and he barely spares them any thought. There’s another boom of thunder, and he jolts, a trauma response, agony reigniting in his leg. He jolts with it, just slightly, gasping quietly behind his teeth.
He is trying very hard not to wake Winry beside him. He wants her to rest as much as she can, what with her being pregnant and all. It’s been more difficult for her this time around, and the doctors had said she shouldn’t be on her feet too often. Edward knows that if she hears him, she’s going to want to help him, and he won’t be able to stop her.

The accusation in the question stung. He’d spent over a decade as the object of Morgan’s blind affection. Losing it now, without any warning and no explanation, made his whole perspective shift off-kilter.
