Summary
The UKRI research base in Nunavut, Canada will be the home and work station for the next 240 days for sixteen scientists and field workers. Dr. Silna Nanuq is back in Iqaluit, her home-town, for the first time in years after being hired as a resource advisor. Dr. Goodsir is spending his first season in the Arctic as assistant to Dr. Macdonald in the Erebus Med Unit. Men like Edward Little and Henry Collins have taken the job in hopes to get out of their own heads. Crozier and Fitzjames struggle both in leadership and in isolation. John Irving wrestles moral quandaries while the distance between himself and a church seems farther and farther every day. Peglar and Bridgens wrestle each other. Hodgson busies himself with reading and puzzles. Jopson vies for Crozier’s attention. In the freezing tundra, they may find comfort and companionship in one another, but a warm home sometimes feels like permafrost.
