Bella frowns at her son’s retreating form as he rounds the corner of the cereal and snacks aisle.
“Who’s ho—” The wind in Bella’s lungs disappears suddenly—unhelpfully—as she does the same.

Bella’s brows raise, and she fumbles for an excuse as to why she’s calling her son’s teacher attractive in the middle of a supermarket.
“Hot, uh—we’re looking for uh, hot cheetos?” She tries, and her scrunched face is entirely unconvincing.
Rosalie’s golden eyes crinkles in adorable confusion.
Ethan snickers into the palm of his hand.
And Bella fidgets on the spot.

“You are one of my closest friends.” It felt wrong. Incomplete. As if she could sense my hesitation, she leaned closer to me.
“Is that all I am to you, Bella?” When she said my name, my heart started to thud erratically behind my chest. She pursed her lips, smirking. “Your friend?”
Too much time passed. Whenever I tried to open my mouth, nothing would come out. Her gaze locked onto my lips. When I found the courage to speak, my voice was strangely confident.
