英灵殿借用或化用了不少历史人物，我在《回声》中引申了一部分，比如埃塞尔雷德郡长（Aethelred of Mercia），他的影响在阿尔弗雷德统治时，在883年之后才显著，比如更主要地，迪奥拉夫主教（Deorlaf of Hereford）作为英灵殿在什罗普郡剧情中的重要角色，我的《回声》至少在叙事上似乎围绕他展开。因此，本文有必要提供一部分他在文献中的具体表现，以便让人更直白地看见历史人物留下的文本形象，不必仅听从二级或三级的叙事转述，同样也方便大家产生游戏之外对他的理解。
