    Sherlock struggles to keep himself in the realm of the physical following the events on Ardnamurchan Lighthouse. John is his anchor, a stable point to help him tell what is real and what must not be real.

    John finds time stuttering and repeating after what he (didn't) see in the wave, but there are people who need him, and that helps him continue doggedly forward. One of those people being Sherlock, the North Star he can always navigate by.

    Mycroft has no idea what is going on between his brother and the doctor, but given Sherlock seems to be losing more and more touch with reality, he's quite certain he doesn't like it.

    He didn't regret it. He'd shot his best friend, he'd shot John. Out of all people... He tried to kill John.
    He deserved what he got, and more.

    But when he'd looked at John, right after... Had there been something in his face? Something primal, animalistic, dangerous, horrible, that made his best friend's face go from exhaustion and concern to fear. Because it had been fear.
    Widened eyes, inner corners of the eyebrows raised, lips slightly parted, trembling...
    It had been fear.

    Set after the events of The Dancing Men. Sherlock thinks John is afraid of him. John thinks Sherlock needs his space. Not a great combo.

    John Watson didn't get to Sherlock Holmes in time, and though they stopped Rochester, the cost paid was far too high.

    But now there's stories of a ghost on the ocean--a young man who calls for John, and brings death in the fog of his wake.

    John may not understand these forces as readily as Holmes does, but he will do whatever he can to get Sherlock back.
