By the end of the first week, when it became clear that there was no obvious end in sight, they basically dragged Henry home, begging him to take a shower and sleep in a real bed, if only for a night. And thus, the shift system was born. It was agreed that this is best for everyone; that if this is going to go on much longer, they all need to be resting and taking care of themselves, to keep themselves sane.
Henry however, has been given somewhat of an exception to the rule, given that he didn’t take well to being told he had a four hour shift.
“Do you honestly expect me to go sit at home, staring at the wall and driving myself crazy, instead of just being here with him?” he nearly shouted at June when she’d suggested it to him. And nobody felt like arguing with Henry. Besides, there’s no way to know how long this will continue, and Henry seems justifiably hell-bent on putting his life on hold to be here every moment that he can.
Because it’s Alex, after all.
Because twelve days ago today, Alex was hit by a car, and went into a coma. And nothing will ever be the same again.
