Summary
“Do you think we will be friends forever?” I almost laughed at the random question, the seriousness strongly diluted by the harsh and incorrect pronunciation but seeing the way his brows furrowed in confusion I quickly smothered it. Sitting silent for a few moments as I pondered his question I watched as he grew increasingly distracted waiting for my answer, causing him to almost drop the oily mechanical piece to the ground.
He turned to face me, set down the metal piece and oil rag to turn and practically leapt towards me with newfound excitement. I stilled as he peered into my eyes from so close, his gaze soft and ever-radiating.
“Beloof het me?” Now it was his turn to laugh at the confusion in my expression. He waved his fist in my face and I cringed at the oil and dust-covered appendage before I noticed the sprung-out pinky finger. Understanding melted onto my face and I giggled at his proposal before intertwining his with mine, barely taking notice of the sick feeling of the oil anymore and relishing the warm feeling that burned into my chest.
“Je promets”
