Pomni continued sitting there, knees crumpled under her, wiry arms shielding her head as best they could. She wished she could turn as tiny as a bug and scuttle away under something dark and heavy. She felt the shape beside her compress, the voice came back, softer and closer to her.
“Do you… wanna….. go to your room?”
“W-wanna … h-h-home.” The words were all at once the only thing she could think of and almost impossible to force out. The voice didn’t sigh this time. The unexpected silence made her clench tighter.
After what felt like ages, it finally spoke up again, still soft, almost inaudible.
“Can I touch you?”
