Summary
Fanny has married Henry Crawford. Henry has gone to London on business, leaving Fanny at Everingham on her own. Looking in the library for something to read, she finds an unexpected book hidden at the back of the shelf: an illustrated copy of 'Fanny Hill, Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure'. Later that night, Henry returns unexpectedly and catches her reading it. He suggests they read it together and wonders if there is any particular part which has aroused her interest.
